Chevron Launches Texaco with Techron at Service Stations in U.S.
Rollout of Texaco with Techron Begins at Chevron-Supplied Texaco Stations in Southeastern U.S; Western States to Follow in September.
SAN RAMON, Calif., August 15, 2005 - Chevron Global Marketing today announced the launch of a marketing campaign that will make it easier for motorists to identify Texaco service stations in the U.S. featuring gasolines with Techron–the company's specially patented additive currently in all Chevron gasolines. Texaco stations supplied by Chevron in the Southeast and Western states are now offering gasolines with Techron to customers. Signage and pumps at Chevron-supplied Texaco stations will include a new "with Techron" logo featuring an oval-shaped identifier and a corner "peel-back" design to elevate the visibility of Texaco with Techron among motorists.
Gasolines with Techron allow consumers to help clean up and keep clean vital engine parts such as intake valves and fuel injectors. Techron does an unsurpassed job in cleaning the engine's intake system while minimizing harmful combustion chamber deposits, which can cause knocking or loss of power during acceleration, and higher emissions.
Chevron Global Marketing has further reinforced its strong commitment to the Texaco brand with the addition of Chevron's specially patented additive, Techron, to all of its Texaco stations. "Techron provides the key ingredient that differentiates Chevron and Texaco gasolines from other brands in the marketplace," said Danny Roden, Vice President, Chevron North America Marketing. "Our customers know when they see the 'with Techron' logo at Texaco stations that they are receiving the utmost in quality products and services that are clean, safe, and reliable."
The launch of Techron in U.S. Texaco stations marks the first phase of a global campaign introducing Techron to world markets, with Texaco stations in Latin America launching Techron in its gasolines later this year. Subsequent phased launches of gasolines with Techron in certain markets - for the Caltex brand in Asia, Eastern, Central and Southern Africa, Pakistan and the Texaco brand in Europe and Western Africa - are scheduled to begin taking place in 2006. Techron, which helps prevent deposits on vital engine parts that can negatively impact vehicle performance and emissions, will be included in all gasoline grades.
Chevron gasolines with Techron were the first in the United States and Canada to be designated as meeting performance criteria set by automakers BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota for TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline. TOP TIER establishes criteria for detergency levels in gasoline significantly higher than those currently set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These automobile manufacturers believe that TOP TIER gasolines result in better overall performance.
The timing of the Texaco with Techron launch in the U.S. is essential to distinguishing the company in the marketplace over the next year. As a result of Chevron's merger with Texaco in 2001, Chevron and Shell both have rights to use the Texaco brand in the United States until July 1, 2006. At that time, Chevron will assume exclusive rights to the Texaco brand in the U.S., and all existing and future Texaco retail brand locations will benefit from the Techron additive. Chevron currently has exclusive rights to the Texaco brand outside the U.S. To find out more about Texaco with Techron, please visit www.texacowithtechron.com.
