Allstate 400
Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge at
Indianapolis Motor Speedway, July 29 |
|
Texaco/Havoline Team Facts:
NEXTEL Cup Series
- A Familiar Place: Juan Pablo Montoya will make history on Sunday by becoming the first driver to compete in all three major events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway: the Indianapolis 500, the United States Grand Prix and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. Montoya has six starts in the Grand Prix, with a top finish of fourth, and one start in the Indy 500.
- The Juan and Only: When the green flag waves for the Brickyard 400 at IMS, Montoya will be the only Indianapolis 500 winner in the 43-car field. A few other current NASCAR drivers have raced in the famed Indy 500 but only Montoya has his face engraved on the Borg-Warner Trophy, one of the most recognizable trophies in all of sports. Montoya took the checkered flag in just his first and only attempt at the Indy 500 in 2000 driving for Team Owner Chip Ganassi's open wheel team. His margin of victory over runner-up finisher Buddy Lazier was 7.184 seconds. He also became the first rookie since Graham Hill in 1966 to win the 500-mile race.
- Standings: Montoya and the Texaco/Havoline team sit 20th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings following a 15th-place finish two weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway. Montoya is now just 193 points out of 15th heading into this weekend's race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Montoya and the team have one win, two top-five and three top-10 finishes this season.
- Ganassi's On a Roll: Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, Inc. (CGR) recorded six wins over the past 30 days in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, NASCAR Busch, IndyCar and Grand-Am Series competition. Starting with Montoya's historic NEXTEL Cup Series win at Infineon Raceway on June 24, CGR Teams have gone on to win three consecutive IndyCar races with Scott Dixon (Watkins Glen – July 8, Nashville – July 15, Mid-Ohio – July 22), a Grand-Am race with Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas at Iowa on July 15 and a Busch Series event with Reed Sorenson at Gateway International Raceway on July 21.
- Rookie Race: Montoya leads David Ragan in the NEXTEL Cup Raybestos® Rookie standings by 14 points (196-182) after the 19th race of the 2007 NEXTEL Cup season. Montoya earned Rookie of the Race honors for the eighth time this season following a 15th-place run at Chicago. The top finish for a rookie at the Brickyard came in 2003 when driver Jamie McMurray piloted the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge to a third-place finish.
- Chassis: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are bringing chassis #707 to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This will be the third race for chassis #707 this season. Montoya drove this car in the 600-mile race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May where he started from the 20th position and finished 28th after being involved in a multi-car incident, and at Michigan International Speedway in June where he finished 43rd. The No. 42 crew rebuilt the chassis in preparation for Brickyard.
- Sirius-ly: Montoya and the team will be featured weekly on Sirius Satellite Radio's Driver2Crew Chatter. Driver2Crew Chatter puts fans in the car and in the pits. Fans can listen to Montoya's radio communication with Crew Chief Wingo, Spotter Tab Boyd and the rest of the Team on channel 119. Listen in every Monday at 5 p.m. ET on channel 128 for the "Juan Pablo Montoya Report." Montoya provides exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team; gives post-race downloads and shares his own personal experiences on his jump full time into the NEXTEL Cup Series.
- The Other 42: Kevin Hamlin will pilot the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge in the NASCAR Busch Series race across town on Saturday night. Hamlin earned a career-best finish in the Busch Series last weekend at Gateway International Raceway where he recorded his first top-10 when he took the checkered flag in seventh. The team will bring the same car to O'Reilly Raceway Park this weekend for the short-track race.
