Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge at
New Hampshire International Speedway, September 16

Texaco/Havoline Team Facts:
NEXTEL Cup Series

  • Round 2, New Hampshire: Juan Pablo Montoya had never competed at New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS) before his visit in June, but that didn't stop him and the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline team from starting in the top five and bringing home a top-20 finish.

  • Standings: Montoya slipped one spot in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver standings to 20th after his 41st-place run last weekend at Richmond International Raceway (RIR). Montoya lined up 15th on Saturday night to take the initial green flag for the 400-lap competition and proceeded to maintain a top-15 run the entire first half of the race. Then, on lap 242 while running 10th, a multi-car accident left Montoya with no way to escape unscathed. He was hit from behind, slammed into the car ahead of him and the car was damaged beyond repair.

  • CoT and Dega: Montoya and the team participated in the NASCAR sanctioned CoT test at Talladega Superspeedway on Monday and Tuesday. Montoya and the No. 42 crew were fourth quick in single car runs on Monday morning in their Dodge Avenger; third quick in single car runs Monday afternoon and fifth on the speed charts in Monday afternoon's drafting session. Teammate Reed Sorenson took over for Montoya on Tuesday with the No. 42 crew for the second day of the test.

  • Rookie Race: Montoya leads David Ragan by 14 points (218-204) in the Raybestos® Rookie standings entering the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With just 10 races remaining, Montoya is poised to become the fourth driver for sponsor Texaco/Havoline to earn Rookie of the Year honors (Allison, Kenny Irwin and Jamie McMurray). It would also be the second time Crew Chief Donnie Wingo has led a new driver (2003 with McMurray) in the No. 42 Dodge to the title.

  • Chassis: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the No. 42 team are bringing chassis #735 to New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend. This will be the third time this season Wingo and the crew will prepare this Avenger for a short track race. Chassis #735 has previously run at Martinsville and Phoenix. Montoya, in his first visit to the paperclip in Virginia, started 23rd and finished on the lead lap in 16th. In Phoenix, the crew never found the right balance on the car and settled for a 33rd-place effort.

  • Did You Know This About 42?: In 1997 when Major League Baseball (MLB) retired Jackie Robinson's No. 42. There were nine players who wore the number that were grandfathered in—only one remains. Pitcher Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees is the last active player to wear the No. 42, a number he has worn since joining the major league ranks in 1995. The Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox this weekend at Fenway Park just two hours south of Loudon, N.H.

  • Native to the Northeast: Two members of the Texaco/Havoline team will be very close to their hometowns while racing at New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend. The No. 42 Texaco/Havoline car chief Mike Brill is a Woodsville, N.H., native and Norwalk, Conn., is the hometown of Mike Bodick who serves as the team's gas man.

  • Celebrating 20 Years: In celebration of Texaco's 20th anniversary in sponsoring stock car racing and a successful season for rookie Montoya, Chevron Products Company introduced its special limited edition gift card carrying the image of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline race car and Montoya. The Texaco/Havoline branded gift cards are now available for purchase in denominations up to $100 at participating Texaco stations or online at www.texaco.com.

  • Sirius-ly: Montoya and the team will be featured weekly on Sirius Satellite Radio's Driver2Crew Chatter. Driver2Crew Chatter puts fans in the car and in the pits. Fans can listen to Montoya's radio communication with Crew Chief Wingo, Spotter Tab Boyd and the rest of the Team on channel 119. Listen in every Monday at 5 p.m. ET on channel 128 for the "Juan Pablo Montoya Report." Montoya provides exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team, gives post-race downloads, and shares his own personal experiences on his jump full-time into the NEXTEL Cup Series.
