Texaco/Havoline Dodge First Out at Pocono, Drops to 15th in Standings
LONG POND, Pa. (June 11, 2006) --- Casey Mears and the Texaco/Havoline team received their first DNF (did not finish) of the season at Pocono Raceway. Mears was sent spinning into the outside wall after making contact with the No. 10 car on the first of 400 laps. The team finished 43rd and dropped from 13th to 15th in the standings.
"That was very disappointing," said Mears. "I was just out there cruising and the No. 10 car must have got loose and ran into the rear of my car. The first few laps you just try and get sorted out, but we never even completed a lap. Things happen, and I've been in those scenarios on the first lap where I took out a bunch of guys. It's hard to get too mad, but we're sitting here in the garage. Any time something like that happens you can say that maybe he was too aggressive too early, but he may have gone in there way easier than he's gone in there all weekend and just gotten too loose."
Mears started the race from the 22nd position after experiencing brake problems during qualifying.
"I felt like we had a pretty good car, but obviously we didn't get a chance to see what it would do. We made some changes that I felt were going to be in the right direction. The Texaco/Havoline team worked really hard and I wanted to get a good finish this weekend."
Mears' Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammates David Stremme and Reed Sorenson finished 26th and 36th respectively.
The Texaco/Havoline team heads to Michigan International Speedway this weekend for the 3M Performance 400.
