CHEVRONTEXACO ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING DECEPTIVE AMAZON WATCH PRESS RELEASES
Misleading and Deceptive Statements Illustrate Plaintiffs' Desperate Attempt to Mask Their Lack of Proof
January 28, 2005 - ChevronTexaco issued the following statement regarding news releases issued today by Amazon Watch regarding an environmental lawsuit filed against the company in Ecuador:
ChevronTexaco objects in the strongest possible manner to the irresponsible and unsubstantiated statements made by Amazon Watch and attorney Steve Donziger in their January 28 news releases. The lawyers and activists promoting the environmental lawsuit against ChevronTexaco in Ecuador are becoming increasingly desperate as their case deteriorates, and their conduct and public statements demonstrate this sense of desperation. In our view, the statements made by Amazon Watch and Donziger in their January 28 news releases are misleading, deceptive, not supported by the technical reports recently submitted to the court and simply false. We intend to express our strong objection to the court of this outrageous and irresponsible behavior.
