Texaco in Canary Islands
In 1923, Texaco appointed its first distributor in the Canary Islands. The Texas Company S.A. was formed in 1934 and registered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The company set up a terminal in a duty-free zone with storage and delivery facilities for vessels and the local market. The first Texaco service station was opened in 1954, and the network has been growing ever since.
In 1964, the company's name was changed to Texaco Canarias S.A., and then in 1987, after entering the market in mainland Spain, the company changed to its current name, Texaco Petrolifera S.A. Today, the company employs 30 people, has 57 service stations and has a retail market share of 16 percent.
