Texaco brings Techron "Clean Engine" Additive to Ireland

DUBLIN, IRELAND - OCTOBER 17, 2006 - Texaco has today announced the launch of its new fuel additive, Techron, a new patented ingredient that helps keep vital engine parts clean and which is now being added to all petrol sold through Texaco-branded service stations in the Republic of Ireland at no additional cost to motorists.

Recognising that clean engines run more smoothly and are more efficient, Techron works by preventing harmful deposit build-up on fuel injectors, intake valves and other fuel system components of a kind that can have an adverse impact on a vehicle's performance and emissions. It does this by helping to clean the engine's intake valves and fuel injectors while minimising the build-up of harmful combustion chamber deposits which can lead to higher emissions and cause engine knocking or loss of power during acceleration.

Besides helping to prevent deposit build-up in new engines thereby keeping them cleaner for longer, it also has the advantage of being able to help remove carbon deposits from older engines thereby making them more efficient.

Already available in the United States, Canada and Latin America, Ireland is the first country in Europe to receive the new additive. Further introductions are planned for other markets in Europe, Asia and Africa over the coming months.

Speaking to journalists at the launch of Techron, Texaco country chairman, Declan McAndrew, said Ireland has been identified as a priority market for Texaco in global terms. "The decision by Texaco to choose Ireland as the launch pad for Techron in Europe was one which underlines the company's long-term commitment to the Irish market, especially in the wake of recent changes affecting other companies that were active here," he said.

Present in Ireland for some 80 years, Texaco currently holds a 17 percent share of the fuel retailing market in the Republic of Ireland. Currently, the company is embarked upon a €10 million investment programme, the bulk of which will be spent on service station upgrades. The most recent example of this is the company’s Airside service station on Swords Road which was redeveloped at a cost of €2.5 million.

"With smarter service stations now opening offering better fuels and more services such as hot food and juice bars, the competition have got every right to be worried by what we're doing. The fact that almost 20 new retailers have joined our branded network in the last two years speaks for itself," said McAndrew.
